The site's strength is its topography, and that is also its problem: the slope forms a boundary between east and west M'hannech, two substantial districts that connect poorly.
The project makes the school the crossing that was missing. A public route runs through the plot and over the building — the fifth façade, the roof, becomes walkable ground and gives the neighbourhood back the land the school occupies.
The hard part is establishing that route without compromising the security or the privacy of the school. The two regimes, school and street, are kept apart in section rather than in plan.
